Martinelli Vineyard, Charles Ranch
Chardonnay
Fort Ross – Seaview, Sonoma Coast
Tended by the Martinelli family, Charles Ranch was the second vineyard planted in the Fort Ross – Seaview AVA, along the Sonoma Coast. Located three miles from the Pacific Ocean, Charles Ranch has a favorable maritime climate and well-draining soils in which chardonnay thrives. Add in Sonoma winemaking legend David Ramey (called “the Professor of Chardonnay,” by Wine Spectator), and the results in the glass are stunning.

“Pursuing chardonnay’s most compelling expressions — where it’s all about texture, acid, and structure — led us to this small but incredible corner of the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA.”
— David Ramey
Charles Ranch was planted by George Hastings Charles, the maternal grandfather of Lee Jr. and George Martinelli. It perches two ridges inland from the Pacific Ocean at 1,115 ft elevation amidst redwoods, bay laurels, and oaks.
